Concrete and Construction
Before construction, more than 120,000 cubic yards of soil were excavated from the former bus barn site to form the stadium’s sunken bowl shape. The project encompassed about 345,000 square feet of slab-on-grade and terraced seating applications; these areas were reinforced using FORTA‑FERRO concrete fiber instead of traditional rebar.
Additionally, over 4,500 tons of structural steel formed the stadium’s backbone, including canopy supports and PTFE‑wrapped “driver tube” framing. Its signature translucent PTFE exterior skin uses about 100 tons less steel than a traditional metal facade, both visually striking and lighter on materials. Combined with environmental systems like rainwater recycling of up to 2 million gallons annually and a hydronic field heating system for the grass playing surface, Allianz Field blends efficient engineering with sustainability.
