Portable Division
Crossover Wind Project
Location:
Wynne, Arkansas
2024 was another outstanding year for the Portable Division, marked by key achievements and milestones. We expanded our reach, completing the Crossover Wind project in Wynne, Arkansas—a resilient town nearly 800 miles from our home base in the Twin Cities (photos below). This project marked Arkansas’s first wind farm and a significant step forward in supporting clean, renewable energy. It also featured the tallest towers Mortenson has built to date, each requiring over 1,000 cubic yards of concrete for their 32 bases. Our dedicated team delivered nearly 36,000 cubic yards of concrete, working through night pours to mitigate the southern heat, enduring two hurricanes, and upholding Cemstone’s commitment to safety and quality throughout.
Thank you to our project team and partners who made this achievement possible. Special recognition goes to James Ihle, who stepped into the role of Portable Operations Manager this year, showing tremendous growth and leadership; Sam Matejcek, our talented new Portable Plant Operator; and Mike LeFlay, our veteran team member, who returned from retirement to share his nearly 30 years of experience with Cemstone. A sincere thank you also goes to the city of Wynne for their warm hospitality, especially while recovering from the EF3 tornado that struck in 2023.
We are thrilled about our team’s success in Arkansas and look forward where our portable plants will pop up next. Interested in learning more? Contact us today!
