Within the past five years, the city of Saint Peter, Minnesota has constructed two new and efficient roundabouts. As the city of Saint Peter grows, so does its traffic congestion. These roundabouts have been built to improve traffic operations and city-residents safety at two crucial intersections. After evaluating several potential solutions, city officials determined that roundabouts were the most effective resolution to improve the flow of traffic at both essential intersections. Both roundabouts were constructed utilizing concrete, requiring more than 1,400 cubic yards in total, which reflects the substantial materials, planning, and effort involved in ensuring the long-term strength and functionality of the roundabouts. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Traffic Viewer, each roundabout accommodates more than 4,000 vehicles per day and has performed as intended, by providing efficient traffic flow while minimizing ongoing maintenance demands.
