Implementation of model-based digital delivery in transportation projects offers benefits like more efficient planning and design, cost savings, and improved safety. Success depends on actively managing project and asset data throughout their lifecycle—from planning and design to construction and asset management. While MnDOT began pursuing digital delivery around 2018, earlier efforts laid the groundwork for moving from paper/PDF plans to digital files. The agency continues working toward fully digital workflows, where enriched models replace traditional plans as contractual deliverables, aiming to improve efficiency and address implementation challenges.
