Proper sawing is crucial to ensure good joint activation and durable joints. The most common assessment is a poke with a calibrated, or not, boot. This presentation will overview the importance of different variables such as timing, type of sawing, and blade type on the long-term durability of concrete. Embedded resistance has emerged as a technique to assess how much curing compound has been applied and if the applied rate is appropriate for the environmental conditions. Embedded resistance can also be used to indicate opening of the sawing window. This new technique has the ability to provide important early-age quality control to improve consistency and durability.
