Falkstone (Trenhaile Quarry) Operations
• Established in 2005, Falkstone is a partnership between L.R. Falkstone and two family-owned and operated construction companies.
• The quarry sells an average of one million tons of various aggregates annually, offering a wide range of products in different sizes and gradations.
• Falkstone’s stone is a key component for Cemstone’s ready-mix plants, paving projects in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, as well as other local construction projects.
• Our agricultural limestone (ag-lime) is produced using fine screens during processing. Rich in calcium carbonate, it is applied to fields post-harvest to balance soil pH. The quality of our ag-lime makes it cost-effective for customers as far away as South Dakota.
• Groundwater and stormwater management has been a challenge since the quarry opened. In 2022, we installed a 14-inch pump capable of dewatering the entire pit at a rate of 6,000 gallons per minute. We also added 12-inch high-pressure wash pumps that deliver up to 2,500 gallons per minute to each of the wash plants.
• The Trenhaile Quarry consists of three distinct production benches, each mined for specific purposes:
-Top bench: paving stone and ag-lime.
-Middle bench: dry products like surfacing rock for roads, base rock, pipe bedding, erosion stone, seal coat chips, and riprap.
-Bottom bench: commercial concrete stone
• The quarry’s working face reaches 65 feet deep, with preliminary testing revealing another 100 feet of high-quality rock below.
• Around 45,000 trucks are loaded and scaled annually from the quarry.
