New Location Grand Opening
For Our Aggregate Operations
Location:
Spring Valley, WI
We recently hosted an open house at our newly aquired aggreagtes location in Spring Valley, WI. The event introduced the community, local officials, and employees to the products now available in the region. A longtime customer of the quarry, Cemstone aquired the operation from County Materials in June 2024.
“It is exciting to see ownership investing in critical long-term aggregate reserves of this quality and quantity. As supply chains become more complicated, having quality aggregate reserves is vital to our corporate needs now and for the future. This acquisition included a professional team that is very knowledgeable of the customers, reserves and our new neighborhood; plus, a full complement of crushing, screening, washing, loading and scaling equipment that will allow for a seamless transition,” said John Rivisto, Vice President and General Manager of Cemstone’s Aggregates Divisions.
Spring Valley Quarry Operations
• Cemstone purchased the quarry from County Materials June of 2024.
• The site encompasses approximately 200 acres with approximately 20 million tons of mineable reserves.
• The quarry reserves are part of the Prairie Du Chein Formation. The Prairie Du Chein Formation is Ordovician in geologic age deposited approximately 470 to 500 million years ago in an ancient marine environment.
• The rock mined at the quarry consists of the sedimentary lithology, dolostone (dolomite), commonly referred to as limestone. The dolostone mined at Spring Valley Quarry has been approved for use by WisDOT and MnDOT.
• The total working face of the quarry wall varies from 60-90 feet high.
• Drilling and blasting operations are utilized to move and prepare rock comprising the quarry floor and walls.
• Each blast produces approximately 20,000 to 40,000 tons of rock of broken rock which can then be handled by
on-site mining & processing equipment.
• An average of 300,000 tons of various aggregates are processed, stockpiled, and sold annually.
• We offer several different products, ranging in size and gradation.
• Prior to the purchase of the quarry, Cemstone was purchasing the 1” – ¾” (#67) stone for use in some Wisconsin ready-mix plants.
• Other products sold are rip rap used for erosion control, washed manufactured sand which can be used for asphalt mixes and backfill for earthwork projects, road base, and agricultural lime (ag-lime) purchased by farmers to help neutralize the acidity of their soils.
