Mendota Heights, MN – Cemstone was recently recognized nationally for its commitment to environmental excellence. The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) presented the Commitment to Environmental Excellence – Central Region award to Cemstone for its East Bethel, MN ready-mixed concrete plant. This marks the 12th time since 2011, and 10th year in a row that a Cemstone plant has been recognized with this award.
Through this awards competition, the NRMCA’s Safety, Environment, and Operations Committee salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment.
The NRMCA’s Safety, Environment and Operations Committee awards producers for their outstanding contribution to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practices in their operations. The awards program salutes companies that have not only met but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. A panel of judges reviewed entries’ plant images and narratives covering site aesthetics, environmental compliance documentation, training, water, and air quality management, returned concrete plans, community relations, concrete delivery, and plant sustainability practices.
The East Bethel plant is committed to not only being an active member of the community, but to be a responsible steward of the land. Stormwater on the site is managed through a series of swales and stormwater ponds, eventually recharging the wetland Cemstone constructed in the northwestern part of the property, providing a habitat for waterfowl. The plant is also equipped with a weir water recycling system to collect truck washout water. This water is then recycled to clean truck drums and in the batching of fresh concrete.
