Fall prevention and proper site preparation are critical in the ready-mix concrete industry to ensure worker safety and prevent accidents.

In the construction industry, slips, trips, and falls are a leading cause of fatalities, accounting for approximately 38% of construction deaths. These incidents also result in a significant number of non-fatal injuries, with a higher rate in construction compared to other industries. 

TRAINING AND AWARENESS

• Conduct regular safety training on fall hazards and prevention.
• Ensure workers are aware of fall risks when operating around wet concrete, which can create slippery surfaces.

GROUND STABILITY AND ACCESS ROUTES   

• Ensure the site is level and compacted to prevent ready-mix trucks from tipping.
• Identify and mark safe travel paths for trucks and equipment.

PROPER DRAINAGE

• Ensure water runoff is controlled to prevent muddy or slippery conditions.
• Use gravel or other stabilizing materials on soft ground areas.

OVERHEAD AND UNDERGROUND HAZARDS

•   Check for overhead power lines when positioning trucks and placing chutes.
•   Ensure spotters are aware of truck heights when backing trucks onto the site.
•   Identify underground utilities to prevent accidental damage.

TRAFFIC CONTROL AND SIGNAGE 

•   Establish clear traffic patterns for trucks, workers, and other equipment.
•   Use spotters and warning signs to prevent collisions or equipment-related injuries.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

•   Have a clear emergency response plan for accidents or falls.
•   Ensure first aid kits and emergency contacts are readily available on-site.
