Wright County, Minnesota has selected a concrete roundabout for the intersection of County Roads 8 and 35 in Rassat, MN. SRF Consulting Group served as the project’s designer; New Look Contracting was selected as the general contractor for the project and French Lake Curb & Gutter was chosen as the concrete contractor responsible for construction of the roundabout. Together, the project team, with assistance from the Concrete Paving Association of Minnesota, developed a durable transportation solution that will meet the needs of drivers for years to come. To improve safety, traffic flow, and long-term performance, the county chose concrete pavement as the preferred solution for the roundabout.
Concrete roundabouts are well-suited for high-load intersections because of their ability to stand up against heavy vehicles and turning movements. Additionally, unlike asphalt, concrete paving resists rutting and shoving under heavy turning trucks. Concrete roundabouts reduce long-term maintenance and traffic disruptions in high traffic areas such as these. Ultimately, the use of concrete construction within roundabouts delivers a longer service life with lower life-cycle costs. When durability matters, concrete continues to prove its value.
